Or more accurately, food I ate at Burning Man 2011. What is Burning Man? Descriptions vary, but I would call it a festival in the Nevada dessert with art, music and free expression. It is also a social experiment that encourages self-reliance, generosity, environmentalism and creativity.
And participants like to burn stuff.
One of the ten principles of Burning Man is “Gifting”. Their website says “Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value.” What this means to me is be generous. My generosity manifested itself in the form of 100 lbs of vegan granola that I gave away to friends and random strangers over the course of the week.
And what food was gifted to me? Here are a few examples:
This was gifted to me by another mom in my camp. It was created unintentionally, but the result was delicious and refreshing. To make it, place a watermelon in a cooler directly on top of a package of dry ice for many many hours while you drive your camper through the Nevada dessert.Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download
Chicken Tacos with Fruit Salad and Vegetable Curry
We had a camp potluck about 4 days into the trip. To have some real food after subsisting for days on granola and wine…It is difficult to convey just how delicious it was.
Grilled Cheese with Bacon on the Side
This was probably the best meal of the whole trip, partly because it was so unexpected. I came across this being made at a nearby camp and was gifted grilled cheese and bacon. I mean, can you think of anything better?
And what are the best snacks in the middle of the hot dry dessert? Frozen treats of course!
Grape Snow Cones and Pineapple Flavorice
Plus drinking is important to stay hydrated.
Last, but not least, the best food at Burning Man. VEGAN GRANOLA!! 🙂
